Who We Are
The Okemos Community Church has been serving the needs of the Okemos and surrounding communities since 1836. The congregation started as a Methodist Episcopal Church and has since evolved into a truly interdenominational faith community whose central focus is Jesus Christ and the day to day application of Biblical faith into practice. The religious backgrounds of the congregation include most major branches of Christianity. We maintain a connection with the United Methodist Church as a shared, ecumenical ministry and our pastor is appointed by the Bishop of the West Michigan Conference.
This is a growing church with a large group of active constituents from not only Okemos, but many of the surrounding communities as well. Both members and constituents alike participate together in an active program that includes worship, study, Christian fellowship, outreach and service. The people of Okemos Community Church are a diverse group of believers, representing all ages, interests and life experiences. We are characterized by a warm spirit as well as a genuine concern and interest in all who enter our doors. We encourage a team approach to ministry as the members of congregation live out their calling to be faithful to Christ in a variety of ways, with the help guidance and support of the professional staff.
Though we are diverse in many ways, we are united in our common faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and in God’s Word as the foundation upon which we build our lives. We focus in both worship and education on God’s will and word as it is revealed in Holy Scripture, applying that word to both our personal and family lives and to the current social, political and economic situations that confront our world.
