September 12th is Okemos Community Churc h “kick-off” for our fall program year. We will worship together at 10:00 a.m., with a rededication of ourselves to our working together as the Body of Christ in this place, at this time. We will celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion, to which all are invited to share. Our Sunday School teachers will be ready to welcome children and youth into a new season of learning and growing. Rev. Randels will be preaching on the role of forgiveness within the family of faith. Following worship, we are all invited to share in a picnic-style lunch hosted by the Membership Committee. Our worship times will shift back to 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 19th

August Mission Bucket

Okemos Community Church ’s August Mission Buckets gifts will support the Love Clothing Center for School Age Children, which is affiliated with Christian Services. The Love Clothing Center opened in 1989, to help the growing number of school age children needing good clothing. The Center is staffed entirely by volunteers at Judson Memorial Baptist Church has served 26,000 in 21 years.
How can you help? The Center accepts cash and donations of new clothing ans clean gently warn used clothing. Items especially needed are socks(new), under ware (new), pants and shirts in sizes 4through 16. If you wish to volunteer at the center please call them directly at 882-5961
Rummage Organizational Meeting

An organizational meeting for all who wish to help with the Okemos Community Church Rumage Sale will be held on Tuesday September 14 at 2pm in the social hall.

August 29, 12:15 (noon)
Okemos Community Church is sponsoring a picnic at Wanch Park for youth (Middle School and HighSchool) and their parents (or guardians) on Sunday August 29th starting at 12:15. The park is located on the West side of Okemos Road just North of Mount Hope Road. The Church will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers. Please bring a dish to pass. Middle School families – side dish (chips, fruit, veggies, salad etc) and High School Families – dessert. We are planning to eat at 12:30. Please join us as we share plans & ideas for the upcoming school year. We need to hear your ideas, suggestions and expectations. To help with planning please let Jen, Paul or the Church office know if you plan to attend. We encourage you to bring your friends/guests.
Youth News
August 22, 4-6 pm
The Okemos Community Church Youth and Leaders will be meeting on Sunday, August 22 from 4-6 pm in the Youth Room. We will spend the first 45minutes or so cleaning/organizing the youth room and getting set up for fall. We will also be returning the pop cans to Meijer. This will be a good time to bring in your saved cans from home! The second hour we will play board games and just catch-up on what everyone has been doing. Our youth group is open to anyone entering 6th grade and older. (Our College age youth would be welcome to join us.) Vacation Bible School

OCC Vacation Bible School“BAOBAB BLAST” for pre-school through 5th grade,will take place August 9 through August 12th. VBS activities will begin with supper 5:15-5:45 pm(Kid friendly meals) for participants and volunteers and the VBS activities 5:45-8:00pm. We are in need of volunteers! You can help even if you will be away during August. Please let Stephanie or the Okemos Community Church office know how much time you can dedicate and we will find a job for you!
Please join us and travel to “Africa” - Plans are underway for : supper, Bible verses, stories, songs, art & craft projects, games, laughter, and prayer . We will end out week Thusday 12th at 7:45 with singing and closing activities and a Ice cream social!

Okemos Community Church July Mission Buckets are accepting donations for Grace Children’s Hospital in Haiti. It was heavily damaged in the hurricane and needs much in the way of capital improvements to make it useable again. Thank you for your caring support.

Music Classes/Concerts
July 27, 7pm
Music Education Classes will be held in the Okemos Community Church sanctuary at 7pm
On Tuesday July 27th an evening of art song will be provided by our wonderful section leader Jenny Cook in collaboration with Elisabeth Ellis at the piano. The pieces will be preceded by demonstrations and a lecture by Alan Nathan
On Tuesday August 3 Our final presentation, we present a joint voice masterclass on vocal basics with Metropolitan Opera soprano Molly Fillmore and our music direction, Alan Nathan. Essential basics of singing are explained in a clear, non-technical way, and we will be joined by a pair of young singers who will demonstrate for us.
